May 2, 2012 - Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato Joining X Factor?

When Simon Cowell’s X Factor premieres its second season, fans may see quite a few familiar faces alongside L.A. Reid on the judges’ panel.

In addition to Britney Spears — who is nearing a $16 million deal to appear on FOX’s series — creator Cowell, 51, is also courting Miley Cyrus, E! News reports. Though no offer has been extended just yet, producers are said to be interested in the 19-year-old pop star.

Also in the running for the fourth judging spot: Disney darling Demi Lovato, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Should 19-year-old Lovato sign on the dotted line, she’d start her role on the series with the judges’ audition rounds that are scheduled to begin at the end of May.

Cowell has been actively searching for talent to replace the X Factor vacancies since January, when judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger — along with host Steve Jones — were given the axe.

As a show source explains, the series — which crowned Melanie Amaro as its first champ — is in need of some serious star power.

Mega-watt talent is needed “badly,” says the insider. “You can’t have Idol with Jennifer Lopez and The Voice with Christina Aguilera and have X Factor with, um, Paula Abdul.”

You wouldn’t know it from our photos, but Demi Lovato loathes having her picture taken. As professional as the 19-year-old singer is at striking a pose, her relief is palpable once it’s over.

“I felt uncomfortable today,” she admits. “Knowing I have bad angles and the photographer can take a bad shot makes me insecure. But I’m a lot better than I used to be. In my first shoot after having treatment, I went into meltdown and ran away from the studio. So I’ve made progress.”

That’s a major understatement. This is the girl, after all, who first found fame as an American TV actress when she was just seven years old. By 15 she was a pop star, billed as Disney’s successor to Miley Cyrus’ teen-queen crown.

Demi Lovato says people treat her “differently” since being in therapy for eating disorders and self-harm.

She’s been out of rehab for just over a year and says “people do treat me differently”.

The 19-year-old Disney star spent three months from November 2010 to January 2011 receiving treatment.

The singer says she has noticed a change in that people she works with are now “more cautious of the workload that I have”.

She’s been speaking to Newsbeat’s entertainment reporter Natalie Jamieson ahead tonight’s BBC Radio 1 story How Young is Too Young to be Popstar.

Demi Lovato talks more about her work and recovery in the upcoming BBC Radio 1 story How Young is Too Young to be Popstar, on Monday 16 April at 9pm. Natalie Jamieson will be on Twitter @Nat_Jamieson throughout the broadcast.
